What to check before choosing a model

Speed matters. The EPA's mold guide says water-damaged areas and items should be dried within 24 to 48 hours to prevent mold growth. Get standing water out first, then start air movers as soon as the space is safe to enter.

Air movers need a partner. An air mover pushes a fast, low stream across wet carpet, floors and walls so the water evaporates sooner. That moisture goes into the room air, so pair air movers with a dehumidifier, or with air conditioning where that makes sense; the EPA lists both as ways to lower indoor humidity. Without one, a closed room just gets more humid.
